HTC official claims the update is not far away

Once upon a time, Google Play Edition devices used to get the newest Android updates quite fast, right after the Nexus family. But with their future being quite uncertain, should we hope and pray for Android 6.0 Marshmallow to reach GPE devices?

It turns out we can and we should. According to HTC’s own Product Manager Mo Versi, who replied to a query on Twitter, the HTC One M8 GPE is in line to get the latest Android update Google has to offer. While the official hasn’t shared a particular date, he does say that the update is bound to be released next month, but that he will update us with more info once the software gets closer to release.

Those who are holding on to a regular HTC One M8 can rest assured, their model is also getting updated to the latest Android build, but probably at a later date.

The Android 6.0 Marshmallow craze is taking over the mobile world, as Google rolled out yesterday the new build for supported Nexus devices. We’ve also heard that some Android One models are being updated to the new build, which is pretty good news for owners of these low-cost models.

LG, Motorola and Sony have also released their official list of models scheduled to get the update. Hopefully, Android 6.0 will spread out faster than Lollipop did.
