The almighty Google hates lag as much as you do

You’re probably extremely annoyed when your Android smartphone experiences lag, aren’t you? Well, guess what, Google is feeling your pain.

That’s why the search giant is using the services of a dedicated robot called Chrome TouchBot to measure the delay between a user’s finger input and what happens on the display.

The OptoFidelity-made machine is used by Google to inflict artificial digit pokes, prods and swipes across a screen in a series of web-based tests that help identify underlying problems in code and hardware.

According to Google’s own François Beaufort, the company uses the same robot in order to test the latency on Chrome OS devices as well. If you’re curious of the whole testing process, you can check out the video below to get an idea of how Google tests for lag-related problems.

Lag has been a persistent problem even since the dawn of Android, but slowly things have been getting better and better, although the issue still exists and is probably far from being eradicated completely.

But little robots like the Chrome TouchBot do bring us hope of an era where lag won’t be present on your Android device anymore. What do you think? Do you see this happening in the future?
