Google first mentioned that it was working on a new video-calling application back in May during Google I/O and the company released the Duo app a few months later in August. Google's Duo became a popular application in the Play Store rather quickly and it seems that it's continuing its ascending evolution.

The application has just hit 10 million downloads in Play store and is now on the 127th spot in the top free apps list. Duo now ranks behind the Clash of Clans game and before McDonald's application for the US.

Just one week after the company released Duo, Google's Sundar Pinchai took to Twitter to announce that it already reached 5 million downloads. This was quite the performance considering that the application is quite simplistic, with only a few features at hand.

However, it seems that Google's Duo needed a few more weeks to gather another 5 million downloads. The application makes it easy to place video calls and it can easily switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data.

In addition, the app displays a preview of the caller so that the receiver can see who initiated the call and answer. Google Duo has 4.4 stars on the Play Store, which is quite a high rating considering that Hangouts has 3.9 stars.

During Google I/O, the company also announced a new messaging application, called Allo. This one has yet to be released, but it does come with some really exciting features, including encryption and integration with Google Assistant.
