Google first announced Duo during Google I/O, together with Allo, a new messaging app that comes with AI features. Even though the highly anticipated video calling app Duo was released just a few days ago, it seems that it has started to gain popularity really fast among users of Android smartphones.

Google’s Duo has become the number 1 free app in Google Play Store, surpassing other popular applications at the moment, including Messenger and Facebook, according to a Twitter post by Justin Uberti, who part of the Duo team at Google. Considering the craze around Pokemon Go lately, one would think that it is the ruler of all apps in the Play store, but surprisingly, it ranks only third among all applications in the Play Store in the USA, surpassed by Google Duo and Facebook’s Messenger.

Google’s Duo has also gained a high rating on the Play Store, 4.5 stars higher than all top 5 free apps. Snapchat occupies the fifth position in the index, followed by YouTube Music. Google’s Duo is already available worldwide, and the application can be used by any Android smartphone owner, as long as they run Android 4.1 or later.

In case you didn't know, Duo is a simple app for placing video calls and comes with a neat feature that allows users to see a video of the caller before they pick up the call. This way, they won’t miss any important details and will see who’s calling.

In addition, Google intends to add audio calling to Duo as well. Google’s Duo is known to provide strong video calls and allow switching between mobile data and WiFi instantaneously, without dropping the call.
