Once upon a time, there was a great mobile phone manufacturer called Siemens. But like other major players in the industry, its era of glory came to an abrupt end a few years ago.

Some of you might recall that back in 2008, the company’s Home and Office Communication Devices division was acquired by Gigaset. Since then, Siemens moved to other fields such as producing wind turbines and medical equipment.

Until now, it didn’t appear that Gigaset was interested in making a move into the smartphone ecosystem, but as a new listing discovered in the AnTuTu database suggests (via Weibo), this might all change in 2015.

Apparently, the company that acquired Siemens is preparing to launch its first smartphone product to date. And according to the information we have, it’s going to be a high-end model too.

The phone is poised to arrive with an unknown form factor, 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution, and a Snapdragon 810 processor under the hood fitted with 3GB of RAM. Other specs include 32GB of internal storage, a 16MP/8MP camera combo, and Android 5.1.1 Lollipop running out of the box.

The specs seem to be in line with what other smartphone makers are launching these days, so the question is: how will Gigaset manage to differentiate this device from the competition? Obviously, it remains to be seen.

A couple of teaser images showing the smartphone have also leaked online, revealing that the device will have a metal frame (maybe a metal unibody too?). According to the information, Gigaset will unveil the smartphone as soon as IFA 2015, so we’ll keep an eye out for it.
