It’s no secret that Cyanogen wants to see Android move away from Google as much as possible. With this in mind, the startup is continuously making changes to its customized mobile platform.

Well, this week, the folks at Android Guys report that the newest change in Cyanogen is the fact that the default calendar app the OS will come equipped with is no longer Google’s. As of Cyanogen OS 12, you should expect it to be Boxer’s Calendar.

Boxer is a Gmail-like email app which will now be the stock application for Cyanogen OS 12 and future versions of the platform.

If you take a look in the Google Play store, you’ll notice that the Boxer app has received pretty high ratings, so users will probably get accustomed to it pretty quickly. The Gmail-like interface also helps in that sense.

A while back, we told you that Cyanogen had teamed up with American smartphone OEM BLU in order to make Android smartphones that come devoid of Google’s services altogether. But will they gain traction?

Cyanogen surely hopes they will and is paving the way by removing some of Google’s apps. Change comes slowly but surely. What do you think?
