Just yesterday we were telling you that Google was contemplating lowering the rates of its Android One smartphones to below $50 / €45 in order to stay relevant on the Indian market, which is swarmed by low-cost offerings.

While we wait for the next-gen Android One phones to be launched in the country, we turn our attention to the Philippines where local carrier Cherry Mobile has just launched a new Android One handset in the form of the G1.

The phone arrives with a 5-inch 720p display (1280 x 720 pixel resolution and Dragontail Glass protection) and draws life from a 64-bit quad-core Snapdragon 410 chipset clocked at 1.2GHz in combination with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage.

The G1 features a 13MP main camera (dual LED, dual tone flash) plus a 5MP selfie snapper located on the front side. The handset is kept alive by a 2,500 mAh battery which should do a swell enough job at offering a relatively decent life cycle. It’s also 4G LTE capable.

Android 5.1.1 Lollipop comes pre-installed on board the phone and you can expect to be delivered an Android stock experience. Android One is a Google initiative which aims to deliver moderately-specced handsets with up-to-date software at budget price tags.

Despite hardware limitations, the Android One bunch will probably be among the first to get the Android M update.

Cherry Mobile will be selling the G1 for the equivalent of $128 / €116.
