The OTA update should be with us shortly afterwards

Samsung has already started upgrading its Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge flagships to Android 5.1 Lollipop, but HTC is yet to provide the same treatment for its own premium One M9, which got unveiled on the same day as the models mentioned above.

However, it seems like it shouldn’t be long before the One M9 gets the update. Actually, the Android 5.1 Lollipop firmware for the device already leaked into the wild and got picked up by developer LlabtooFeR, who already developed a custom ROM for the smartphone.

So if you don’t want to wait for the official update to hit your handset, you can go ahead and install the custom ROM.

After doing so, you’ll notice that a few changes have been applied to the interface. For starters, there’s a new native display color that lets users tinker with the color temperature of the display. The ROM also adds multi-user support and one can also spot the Do Not Disturb mode and the use of alarms in the screenshots provided by the developer.

Additionally, new animations have been included in Sense 7, HTC’s own custom Android skin.

Naturally, if you want to install the ROM, you will have to have an unlocked bootloader and custom recovery installed. But if you don’t want to void your warranty, you should wait for the official release. And given the firmware leak, it shouldn’t take long before it arrives.
