Chinese vendor ZTE Corporation is reportedly preparing the launch of a new device running under Mozilla’s Firefox OS, and has already officially confirmed that.

He Shiyou, the company's executive vice president, confirmed sales of 100,000 units of ZTE Open, the first Firefox OS handset from the company, a recent article on Techhive reads.

The smartphone was built mainly for emerging markets, including Latin America and others, yet it has already been released in territories such as the US and the UK.

While sales of the device seem very low when compared to the mount of Android-based devices being sold at the moment, ZTE is pleased with demand and optimistic about the future.

"The demand has exceeded supply, but we also purposely did not want this first generation product to have a large scale,” He Shiyou reportedly said.

The company will launch the successor of ZTE Open next year, but it did not provide specific info on it as of now.
