It looks like ZTE will be the first handset manufacturer to launch a smartphone based on Mozilla’s Firefox operating system for mobile phones.

The Chinese company confirmed that it would announce two major new devices next month at Mobile World Congress 2013, ZTE Grand Memo and ZTE Mozilla.

The former is a high-end Android phablet powered by a quad-core processor, which boasts a huge 5.7-inch HD (720p) display, while the latter is a budget-friendly Firefox-based smartphone.

There are no additional details on the phone’s specs sheet, but Mozilla and ZTE stated that the first Firefox phone would be available via an unnamed European carrier.

Those who wish to learn more on Firefox OS and ZTE’s smartphone should check out Engadget’s full demo of the platform at Consumer Electronics Show 2013. Stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
