Xiaomi might be making an important purchase soon

Not so long ago, we told you that major tech companies like Microsoft and Xiaomi were apparently looking into purchasing Canadian smartphone maker BlackBerry.

While the information held merely a rumor status, this week we stumble upon something more concrete. G for Games reports that Xiaomi’s Co-Founder and President Bin Lin himself made a post on Weibo refuting recent rumors that the company might be interested in purchasing HTC.

However, the official claims that Xiaomi will indeed acquire BlackBerry. According to the source, even if you take Bin Lin’s sentence and break it into individual words, the result is the same. It says “Xiaomi will acquire BlackBerry.”

Nevertheless, we shouldn’t take this piece of information as if the deal had already been sealed. We don’t know whether Xiaomi’s president is expressing interest in purchasing BlackBerry or whether steps have been taken towards this goal already.

Acquiring BlackBerry might be an important push ahead for Xiaomi. The company has managed to build quite a name for itself in the Asian markets, but even so, we’re yet to see Xiaomi products sell anywhere else in the world.

For example, the device maker has yet to venture into one of the most competitive mobile markets in the world, the US. But buying BlackBerry might help Xiaomi become an important player in the Western Market.

Just look at Lenovo, which became the world’s third smartphone maker after the Motorola acquisition last year.

Update: It appears that Xiaomi's president was actually asking people not to spred rumors about Xioami wanting to purchase BlackBerry.
