A few days ago, we told you that Xioami was expected to hold a press-event in San Francisco on February 12. The company has been skittish about entering the overly-crowded US market, but the news gave us hope that Xioami was finally ready to come to America.

Well, we hate being the ones to burst your bubble, but a company spokesperson talked to Android Police to explain the situation. It turns out Xioami is not coming to America to announce they are going to start selling their products there.

Apparently, this is just an attempt to become more familiar with the potential consumer base in the country. It’s a scouting mission of sorts.

Xiaomi will probably be presenting itself to the US audience, so the event is set up as an opportunity to get to know the company and the leadership.

Xiaomi’s president Lin Bin and Global Vice President Huggo Barra are expected to make an appearance in San Francisco. Barra is a known presence in the US, as he played a major role in Android’s development, back when he used to work for Google.

In a recent interview, Barra explained that it would take Xiaomi a few years before it reached the States, but who knows, if the scouting goes well, we might hear something else entirely next year.
