Yesterday, Chinese mobile phone maker Xiaomi made the recently announced Xiaomi Hongmi (aka Xiaomi Red Rice) smartphone official for purchase, only to see it sold out in just 90 seconds.

The Android 4.2 Jelly Bean handset was made official on July 31 and saw 7.45 million pre-orders until its official release, when the first batch of 100,000 units was sold in less than two minutes, techinasia reports.

The handset comes with a very appealing price tag of only $129 (€97), yet it packs a 1.5GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6589T processor inside, 1GB of RAM, a 4.7-inch 720p touchscreen, and a 2000 mAh battery.

Furthermore, the handset sports 4GB of internal memory, a microSD memory card slot, an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back, front camera for video calling, and TD-SCDMA 3G connectivity, which makes it fit for China Mobile’s network.

By the end of this year, Xiaomi expects to sell over 20 million smartphones in China, greatly helped by the newly released device.
