Come MWC 2015 in early March, the world will look towards Samsung and HTC who are expected to unveil flagship devices at the event.

But this means a lot of smartphones present at the event might miss the spotlight. For example, little-known smartphone manufacturer Gionee might have something exciting to show us at the event.

Even if the device maker has said it is no longer trying to compete with the increasingly thin devices we’re currently seeing on the market today, a recent report and several leaked images (as seen at G for Games) seem to indicate that the company is prepping to unveil the Elife S7, a model that will come boasting a frame of only 4.6 mm / 0.18 inches.

Extremely thin smartphones have become a thing lately. Oppo’s R5 was launched with a 4.85-mm / 0.19-inch frame, but the Vivo X5 Max quickly came and robbed it of the world’s thinnest smartphone, boasting a 4.8-mm / 0.18-inch frame.

Recently Coolpad’s Ivvi K1 Mini became the sleekest money could buy, by launching with a 4.7-mm / 0.18-inch profile.

So who’s to say Gionee is not giving it another go, trying to launch a smartphone so thin it will break records, before it gives up on the battle altogether.
