Yesterday, Microsoft officially announced the upcoming availability of a new flavor of its mobile operating system, called Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 and set to become available for download as soon as next week.
However, the new OS iteration will be offered only to the owners of Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview handsets, while the rest of Windows Phone 8.1 users out there will have to wait a few more months before receiving it.
For those who enrolled in the Preview for Developers program, however, even more good news comes their way today, as Microsoft’s Joe Belfiore has confirmed that the update will be delivered to them automatically.
Basically, this means that they will only have to wait for a notification to appear on their phones, informing them on the availability of the new platform iteration.
Of course, they can also manually check on their smartphones to see whether the update is available or not, but only after the rollout officially kicks off.
The Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 arrives on devices with a nice range of enhancements, which include App Folders on the Start Screen, a Live Tile for the Store, enterprise improvements, and more.
At the same time, the update will make Cortana available for users in more markets out there, namely China, the UK, Australia, India, and Canada. Stay tuned for more info on when the new software release starts arriving.
