Windows Phone fans rejoice, as the highly anticipated Windows Phone 8.1 Preview for Developers has just gone live on Microsoft’s servers and is now available for download.

The information has just been confirmed by Microsoft’s Joe Belfiore, who said last Friday that the update should be available early this week.

Those who own a developer account can now download Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview as long as they have a compatible device.

Microsoft has confirmed that all Windows Phone 8 handsets support the new Windows Phone 8.1 update. Non-developers can now register for an App Studio account in order to be able to download this preview build.

Keep in mind though that this is not the final version of Windows Phone 8.1, as Microsoft has stated that some features will be added by the time the new operating system is released for the general public.

It is also worth mentioning that all those who download and install this Developer Preview will be eligible for Windows Phone 8.1 update when it gets released this summer.

According to some reports, you might get an initial smaller update for your Windows Phone 8.1 devices, after which the larger Developer Preview update should pop up on the display. Have you received the update yet? Share your impressions with us.
