The new application will be bundled in the upcoming operating system

With just a few months left until Windows Phone 8.1’s reveal, information on the new OS features and capabilities continue to leak online.

We have already reported on some of the major features that will be included in Windows Phone 8.1, but here is another one that has just popped up at WMPoweruser.

Facebook fans will be happy to know that Windows Phone 8.1 will come with a brand new Facebook Messenger application, which will be embedded onto the operating system.

For the time being, it’s unclear how this will work for Windows Phone users, but they may not be able to check their Facebook and Messenger messages in the same place anymore.

Microsoft’s move seems to be aimed at Facebook Messenger users who will then be able to set up their accounts much easier. That might sound a bit weird now that Facebook has announced that it will shut down its desktop Messenger application beginning March 3.

Perhaps there aren’t so many Facebook Messenger users to be worth the trouble of having a dedicated app integrated within the Windows Phone 8.1.

On the other hand, it can’t hurt having it in the first place either, as Facebook is likely to try to revive its instant messaging within the next months.
