Microsoft and Nokia are working to launch the next major software update for Windows Phone 7.5 handsets.

The latter is already planning to release its first smartphone based on Windows Phone 7.8, the Nokia Lumia 505.

But when exactly will the Windows Phone 7.8 arrive on WP 7.5-based handsets? It looks like the folks over at WinP.cn have already spotted the update on Navifirm.

Although the leaked update is only compatible with Nokia Lumia 800 and 510, it stands to reason that the rest of the smartphones powered by Windows Phone 7.5 will receive it as well, possibly with a few exceptions.

Windows Phone 7.8 is said to bring lots of new features and improvements, which are already included in the Windows Phone 8. Stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
