Although Windows Phone 8 was made official last week, Microsoft is still keeping mum on when the owners of Windows Phone 7.0 and 7.5 devices will receive their share of new updates, in the form of the Windows Phone 7.8 platform release.

Recent reports on the matter have suggested that the new OS flavor might arrive after Windows Phone 8 hits shelves, which has already started to happen in some markets around the world, but no official confirmation on this is available.

However, the release date of Windows Phone 7.8 is drawing near, that’s for sure, and the platform has already been spotted running on a Nokia Lumia 900 in China.

Apparently, Nokia China themselves have put the Windows Phone 7.8-based Lumia 900 on display for users to take it for a spin, and Sina Weibo (via LiveSide) has some photos available to prove it. Details on availability have not been unveiled.
