Mobile operating systems are not flawless, and Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7.5 Mango platform isn’t either.

Apparently, the OS is hit by a flaw that can be exploited through an SMS that contains specific lines of code. When such an SMS is received, the device will rebut, and the Messaging Hub will be prevented from opening.

The issue resides in the manner in which Windows Phone handles specific characters, and is not handset specific. It was tested on HTC’s TITAN and Samsung’s Focus Flash.

Moreover, it appears that the bug can be triggered through messages sent via Facebook chat or Windows Live Messenger. You can learn some more info on how it works courtesy of the video embedded above.

For the time being, it appears that there is no workaround to fix the Messaging Hub issue. Affected users will have to hard reset their devices and wipe them clean.
