Nokia confirmed it will lock down access to its firmware repository

Nokia announced several days ago it would lock down access to its firmware repository, also known as NaviFirm, beginning late January.

This means that connecting to NaviFirm will require a valid Nokia account, so access for general public will be restricted.

This is bad news for Nokia smartphone owners that are currently using NaviFirm as their only source of updates for their devices.

Even though Nokia said it would close access to NaviFirm on January 31, the folks over at WMPoweuser report the Finnish company has just pulled the latest Windows Phone 8 Portico update for Lumia 920.

The reasons behind Nokia’s decision are unknown for the moment, but the company might have found some bugs that need to be ironed out. Stay tuned for more info on the matter.
