The Nexus 6 should receive a bunch of updates soon

You might remember that, back when T-Mobile announced the Wi-Fi unleashed Uncarrier initiative, it promised that all phones selling under its banner would be compatible with T-Mobile Wi-Fi Calling.

Wi-Fi calling uses Wi-Fi to provide better mobile phone coverage. It is based on a Smart Wi-Fi application from Kineto Wireless that is pre-loaded on the select handset. This setup allows you to make a call or send a text in place where you normally don’t have coverage.

Anyway, going back to T-Mobile, the only handset that was left without Wi-Fi calling was the Nexus 6. However, the carrier did promise it would roll out a software update to enable this service in 2015, although we’re to see that happen.

Now word surfaced on Twitter that the update for the Nexus 6 will probably arrive before the end of March (Q1). The carrier’s own Product Manager Des Smith tweeted that band 12 support, VoLTE and Wi-Fi calling weren't likely to be embedded all in one update.

He also revealed that a test build of VoLTE was already up and running on his Nexus 6 without major issues, so T-Mobile affiliates shouldn't have a long way in front of them.
