We’ve been reporting on some of the new features WhatsApp plans to add to its Windows Phone application, though no information on when they would be available leaked online until recently.

According to ex-Microsoft employee Nawzil, a major update for WhatsApp Messenger for Windows Phone will be available for download via Windows Phone Store very soon.

He previously tipped a major update for WhatsApp Messenger for Windows Phone by the end of February, but that only included a few minor improvements.

Windows Phone users who have been accepted into the beta program have been able to experience the advantages of the new features WhatsApp plans to add to the Windows Phone application, but they have yet to be available to general public.

Unfortunately, there’s no telling which of the new features that we reported on in the last couple of weeks will be included in the next major update.

However, we expect at least some of these to be available in the next version of WhatsApp Messenger for Windows Phone: Chat Backgrounds, Advanced privacy options, Broadcast List management, Customizable notification sounds, as well as improved control over data usage.

We also expect developers to add some UI changes into the update, in order to make the application easier to browse. We will keep an eye out for any additional details on the upcoming update, so stay tuned.
