The new version if available via the developer’s website

Nokia stopped support for Symbian a long time ago, so those who still own smartphones powered by this operating system should have switched to new devices by now.

However, those who can’t afford switching to a new smartphone – though I don’t think that’s a viable excuse seeing how cheap and entry-level Android handset is nowadays – can only update their apps via devs’ websites.

Many developers confirmed they would continue to update their Symbian apps for a while and one of these developers is WhatsApp. The Symbian version of the instant messenger has just picked up a new update and those who wish to download the new version will have to head over to WhatsApp’s official website.

There are only a couple of new features included, but more importantly, the latest update brings improved performance and some under-the-hood bug fixes.

The newest version of WhatsApp for Symbian adds brand new emoji input, just like on Android, which means they support multiselection and shows last used emojis in the first tab.

The contact information page now shows more contact info additionally to the WA number, like email addresses and other numbers and all common groups.

Last but not least, the messaging view font size now depends on the system font size. You can change that by going to Menu / Settings / Phone / Display / Font size.
