WhatsApp is preparing the release of a new flavor of its mobile client for Windows Phone devices, and it has already pushed out a beta version of the software to test some of these changes.

The latest flavor of WhatsApp Beta for Windows Phone comes to devices as version 2.11.408 and features some appealing UI tweaks, including a better unread messages counter, WMPoweruser notes.

However, additional changes were also spotted in the beta version of the app, such as a progress bar for video downloads, as NokiaPowerUser reports.

According to the news site, another change in the new application release is the fact that contacts with multiple phone numbers and with a WhatsApp account will have their accounts displayed under a single contact card.

Apparently, WhatsApp has also decided to tweak the icons in the Profiles section in the Windows Phone client. New such icons have been included there, currently taking users to the chat pane, but expected to be related to the voice calling feature that WhatsApp is set to receive later this year.

For those out of the loop, we should note that WhatsApp has unveiled plans to deliver VoIP voice chatting capabilities to users on Android and iOS this year, while also planning on bringing them to Windows Phone and BlackBerry at a later date.

Currently available only for WhatsApp Beta users on Windows Phone, the aforementioned changes should soon be pushed to the stable flavor of the app, and more info on them should be provided at that time, so stay tuned for more on the matter.
