Google believes in the power of differences

If you like cute things (who doesn't?), you’ll be happy to know that Google has just posted six new Android ads which will certainly make your Friday a lot sweeter.

The commercials are called “Be together and not the same” and guest star a bunch of unlikely furry friends involved in atypical “relationships.” In one we’re shown a dog and a cat opening a door together while in another a tiger and bear cuddle up in total bliss.

But apart from being super adorable, these ads want to highlight an important message. Apple has been priding itself with being the only iOS device manufacturer in the world. On the other hand, Google’s Android has been tweaked, changed and altered numerous times by device manufacturers (LG, HTC, ASUS, Xiaomi, Samsung, they all do it).

This in turn has resulted in fragmentation, something that the iOS environment is not affected by. However, with these ads Google is hinting that diversity still amounts to unity.

Surely, the endearing way Google has chosen to highlight that differences make the world a better place will resonate with a lot of people.

Recently, a report came in showing that Apple’s iOS has overtaken Android as top US smartphone OS. So Google is retaliating with a bunch of ads appealing to our soft side and our innate need for change and diversity.

This is one interpretation. Another one would be that the “Be together, not the same” campaign was meant to show that Android Lollipop (Google’s latest OS version) will be able to provide a unified experience across a range of devices.
