14 DAY TRIAL // Sold to the highest bidder, Nokia’s luxury brand Vertu has been acquired by EQT VI private equity group last year in June.
Former Nokia exec Anssi Vanjoki became CEO of the EQT-owned Vertu back in October and promised that the company would start producing Android handsets that will replace the old Symbian phones.
Well, it looks like Vertu’s plans are about to come to fruition, as UnwiredView reports that Eldar Murtazin, reputed source of Nokia leaks, claims Vertu will launch its first Android smartphone in late February.
According to him, the device will be called Nokia 8800 Legacy and will be available for no less than €3,000/$4,000 outright.
However, it’s highly unlikely that Vertu may be able to continue to use Nokia’s brand name for its devices, which is why we think the smartphone will be launched as Vertu 8800 Legacy. No word on the phone’s specs sheet yet, but stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
