Shortly after Sprint announced that it had started the rollout of the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update for Samsung Galaxy S4 mini, Verizon confirmed that it was doing the same thing for its own customers.

Android enthusiasts who own a Verizon Galaxy S4 mini should start checking for the highly anticipated Android 4.4.2 KitKat update, software version KOT49H.I435VRUBND5, on their devices.

According to Verizon, the update is pushed OTA (over the air) in stages, so it might not be available for everyone at the same time.

Here are some of the most important changes included in this update, aside from the new features and improvements added in the Android 4.4.2 KitKat.

First of all, the update adds Verizon Cloud and Emergency Alerts on the smartphone, and brings support for Samsung KNOX 2.0 and enhanced security (permission added to read/write to “My Places” location setting).

Android 4.4.2 KitKat also introduces Google Printing framework, as well as Google Hangouts with SMS. Google+ Photos has been renamed Photos and Play Magazine has become Play Newsstand.

Last but not least, Samsung has fixed some bugs with Google Voice Search, so the application should now function properly without force close issues. The Wi-Fi network stability has been improved and the Backup Assistant Plus should now sync properly.
