VLC for Android, the mobile application meant to provide owners of devices running under Google's mobile OS with the features and capabilities that desktop users already enjoy, has made its way to the Google Play Store in Canada and the US this week.

The mobile software, released in a beta flavor for quite some time now, is nearing a stable release, and the team at VideoLAN is working both on squashing bugs and on expanding the availability of the app, it seems.

In all fairness, Android users in North America interested in grabbing the app could do so by accessing VideoLAN’s website and manually installing it on their devices, as liliputing notes. However, things have become much simpler for them now.

VLC for Android has seen a nice range of enhancements lately, especially with the latest beta release, which added improved hardware acceleration, audio equalizer fixes, SD card fixes, better subtitle support, and the like.

No specific info on when the media player will become available on Android in a final, stable version has been provided as of now, but chances are that enthusiasts won’t have to wait too long for that. Keep an eye on this space for additional details on the matter.
