The option to mute certain friends can be enabled / disabled at any time
Good news for Twitter users, as developers of the social media service have just announced that they have introduced a new feature to their Android, iOS and desktop apps that will allow users to mute any of their friends.According to devs, “in the same way you can turn on device notifications so you never miss a Tweet from your favorite users, you can now mute users you’d like to hear from less.”
The feature comes in handy if you do not wish to see the tweets that someone you follow is going to publish live at a certain time. This means that you don’t need to unfollow a person while he/she tweets about his/her favorite hokey team and then follow that person again.
Keep in mind that while you won’t be able to see the tweets and retweets of the muted person on your timeline, that person will still be able to favorite, reply to and retweet all your tweets. However, you will not be able to see that activity on your timeline while you mute that person.
In order to mute a person, simply go to More and then choose Mute @username. If you want to mute someone from their Twitter profile page, simply click on the gear icon and choose mute @username.
According to Twitter, this new feature will be slowly rolled out through Google Play Store, so if it’s not available for you, it means that it hasn’t reached your country yet.
