Twitter has just released a new version of its Android client, featuring a redesigned user interface and a handful of improvements and tweaks.

Android users will notice Twitter's timelines are now a little wider and taller, the navigation bar is now flat and there's a new ability that allows users to tap and hold for quick actions. You can now swipe between tabs instead of just clicking on each top category.

The application has also been gifted with @username and #hashtag suggestions that appear as users search or compose a tweet. Lots of other bug fixes and improvements have been included as well.

Twitter 4.0 is now available as a free download via Google Play Store and it should be fully compatible with all devices running Android 2.1 and up. Check it out here.
