South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics is gearing up for the launch of the first Tizen OS-based smartphones, though it appears that carriers are not as interested in these devices as Samsung might have hoped for.

In fact, a recent WSJ article claims that the launch of handsets running under the mobile operating system has been delayed due to this state of facts. NTT DoCoMo, which has long supported the OS, is indefinitely delaying the release of Tizen devices on its network.

Even so, the South Korean vendor will still showcase the platform at the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona later this month.

Apparently, Samsung is still committed to the operating system and plans on launching devices running under it in the not too distant future. However, it remains to be seen whether it will indeed manage to make an impact on the smartphone market.
