This handset appears to be very interesting

Just in time for Christmas, Japanese carrier KDDI has an unexpected surprise for odd-looking smartphone fans.

The company has announced Japan’s first smartphone bundling the Firefox OS, which has been manufactured by LG and is dubbed the Fx0.

The handset is quite middle-specced, but what makes it special is its unique design. The Fx0 comes boasting a transparent shell and a nice home button that has been adorned with the Firefox logo.

Apparently, the translucent design is there for a reason. Mozilla is trying to make a statement here, with the see-through design symbolizing Mozilla’s commitment for openness and transparency.

Now, let’s see what the Fx0 brings to the table in terms of specs. The device dons a 4.7-inch display with 1280 x 720 pixel resolution (312 ppi) and is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset with four 1.2GHz Krait 300 cores and Adreno 306 GPU fitted with 1.5GB of RAM plus 16GB of internal storage (expandable up to 64GB).

Those purchasing it will also get an 8MP snapper on the back and 2.1MP selfie-camera up in front. The handset runs Firefox OS 2.0 and relies on a decent 2370 mAh battery.

The handset is not the sleekest you’ll ever see on the market, measuring around 5.47 x 2.76 x 0.41 in (139 x 70 x 10.5 mm) and breaking the scales at 5.44 oz / 148 g.

The Fx0 will be sold in Japan for around $416 / €340 and can be picked up in gold.
