Data speed is throttled after exceeding cap, gets limited to 2G

Walmart and T-Mobile USA have just announced the availability of several new unlimited plans for families. Although both companies have had some history with unlimited talk and text plans, this is the first time that the carrier offers unlimited data as well.

The new family mobile plan requires customers to pay $45 for the first line and an extra $35 for each additional line. There are no discounts for families with more than 3 or 4 members, so simply add $35 for each additional line.

Family Mobile Plan offers unlimited talk, texts and data. However, the data speed is throttled to 2G speeds as soon as subscribers reach 250MB of data.

There’s also some kind of a promo offer for those who sign up for a Family Mobile Plan before March 16. They will get a 5GB cap instead of 250MB, after which the speed will be limited to EDGE.
