Good news for Android fans who purchased Swipe Telecom’s Konnect 5.0 mid-range smartphone that was launched in India last week, as the carrier has announced that a major KitKat update is now available for the devices.

Swipe Konnect 5.0 ships with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box. However, beginning today, owners will be able to update their smartphones to Android 4.4 KitKat, fonearena reports.

The smartphone is now available for purchase in India for Rs 8,999 ($150 / €110) outright, which is not that bad considering its specs.

The Konnect 5.0 is equipped with a 1.3GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory, which can be further expanded up to 32GB via microSD memory card.

It also sports a 5-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports qHD (540 x 960 pixels) resolution and offers dual-SIM capability with dual standby support.

There’s also an enhanced 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back, which features an OmniVision sensor, LED flash and autofocus. In the front, the smartphone packs a 3.2-megapixel camera for video calls and selfies.

Aside from the usual Android 4.4 KitKat new features and improvements, the update also brings some tweaks to the customizable UI, so users can personalize it even further using effects, themes and transitions.
