Custom software for these devices can be developed easier now

Owners of Sony Xperia go, P, sola, and U smartphones out there should rejoice, as the source code for the ST-Ericsson NovaThor U8500 chipset that powers them has leaked online.

Coming up with custom ROMs for these devices has not been an easy task until now, given the fact that said code was not available for modders, but things should change moving forth.

The complete source code (for the kernel and all related hardware) for the chipset has made it online, which should result in the availability of a dedicated partition for recovery and in better ROMs being built by enthusiasts, as XperiaBlog notes.

However, it should be noted that the exact origin of the leaked source code is not known for the time being, which means that no publicly available custom ROMs will emerge until the legality of the leak is confirmed. You can learn more on the matter in this thread over at the XDA-Developers Forum.
