Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini can’t handle Lollipop requirements

Albeit being one of the manufacturers who picked up the Android 5.0 Lollipop update relatively quickly, Samsung still has a slew of smartphones/tablets that need to be updated.

Most of the company’s flagships now run variations of Android 5.0 Lollipop, but what about mid-range models? If we’re to believe recent reports, good old Sammy is working towards bringing Android 5.1 to the Galaxy Grand Prime and Android 5.0.x to the Galaxy Mega 2.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 mini, the miniature version of the highly popular Galaxy S4 flagship, hasn’t achieved the same level of acclaim, although there are still some people who are rocking this device out there.

Sadly, we have a bit of bad news for owners of this device model. A user sent out a tweet asking UK carrier Three about when the phone might be getting the Lollipop update.

The carrier replied saying that, unfortunately, the Samsung Galaxy S4 mini wouldn’t be receiving the Android 5.0 Lollipop update, due to memory limitations.

Apparently, Lollipop is just too power-hungry to be ported to the 2013 Samsung Galaxy S4 mini. And as it turns out, Samsung has also backed up the claim made by Three, so if you’re a Galaxy S4 mini owner, you’d better get used to the idea that you will remain stuck at Android 4.4 KitKat while you own the device.

Update: It appears that at least some Samsung Galaxy S4 mini units will get the much craved for Lollipop update. Three Ireland has just confirmed on Twitter that the new build will start rolling out soon. Apparently, their version is different from the one provided by Three UK.
