Sony Mobile started the delivery of a new security service to its users recently, with the owners of Xperia handsets in the Nordic countries being the first to get a taste of it, but it seems that other users can also download and install the mobile client on their devices now.

Initially expected to see a global deployment in the second quarter of the year, the needed .apk is now available for any Xperia device, so that users could be able to easily locate and protect devices that have been misplaced or stolen.

For the application to work, however, devices will need to be running at least stock Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich, XperiaBlog notes.

After installation, people can log into the my Xperia website with their Google account credentials, so as to either locate the device, lock it, sound an alarm or wipe it clean.
