Sony promises a new, big update next month

Last month, it was revealed that Australian carrier Telstra was making plans to update a few Sony Xperia Z series smartphones to Android 5.1 Lollipop in August.

But it appears that international Sony Xperia models are going to get the sweet update faster. Sony itself has confirmed on its website that the Xperia Z and M2 series will be updated to the new build in July.

The full list of devices includes the Xperia Z series, Xperia Z1 series, Xpeira Z2 series, Xperia Z3 series, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia T2 Ultra, Xperia C3, Xperia M2, and Xperia M2 Aqua.

Owners of the Xperia Z lineup of phones and tablets will be among the first to see Android 5.1 hit their devices via an OTA update. M2 and M2 Aqua users will receive the same treatment shortly afterwards.

Surely, the announcement should be cause of great joy among Sony smartphone owners, but keep in mind that just because a manufacturer announces a time frame doesn’t mean things can’t go wrong. Just look at ASUS, which had to postpone the Lollipop update for its Zenfone 4, 5, and 6 phones three times.

Nevertheless, we have hope Sony will keep true to its word and start offering the update soon.
