Sony has yet to release Android 5.0 Lollipop to Xperia Z, the last smartphone in the series that should get the update according to the Japanese company.

However, that doesn't mean that the updates will stop. It looks like Australian carrier Telstra will offer a new Android 5.1 Lollipop update to a few Xperia Z series smartphones.

The updates are scheduled to arrive on August 10 on three smartphones: Xperia Z, Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z1 Compact. According to the listing spotted by XperiaBlog, the update should have been released earlier if not for an issue.

Telstra confirmed that a test submission was received on May 1, but a showstopper issue has been identified and that a new submission based on Android 5.1 Lollipop is expected on July 10.

Since these are carrier-branded smartphones, we expect Android 5.1 Lollipop update to arrive on Xperia Z series devices much earlier, assuming Sony fixes the issues that were found in the most recent build.

The important thing is that we now know that Sony plans further updates for Xperia Z series, so those who own unlocked models should expect them on their smartphones in the coming months. Stay tuned for more info on the matter.
