Right on schedule major carrier NTT Docomo launches the Xperia Z in Japan. The smartphone is available for purchase in black, white and purple.

However, it appears that those who did not pre-ordered the device are likely to return home empty handed as stock is limited and demand very high, the guys over at XperiaBlog claim.

Although Xperia Z will ship with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean platform out of the box, Sony promised an upgrade to Android 4.2 will be available soon after launch.

Hardware-wise, the smartphone is equipped with a 1.5 GHz quad-core processor, an Adreno 320 GPU, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory which can be further expanded up to 32GB via microSD memory card.

It is also worth mentioning Xperia Z is IP57 certified and sports a stunning 5.0-inch Sony Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2 display that supports full HD (1080p) resolution.
