Japanese handset maker Sony released the promised Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for Xperia U about a month ago. However, the upgrade was only rolled out in selected markets.

Today, Sony Canada confirmed the update is now available for Xperia U owners in Canada: “We’re excited to announce that ICS is now available for XperiaU fans in Canada via PC Companion.”

Keep in mind that the update is only available via Sony’s PC Companion desktop software, so you might want to download and install the latest version from Softpedia.

Sony Xperia U is one of the last Xperia series smartphones launched earlier this year at Mobile World Congress 2012 that receive an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade.

For some reasons Sony decided to release the Xperia U with Android 2.3 Gingerbread platform onboard, back in May. Fortunately, the smartphone is now getting the long-awaited Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade.
