Right on cue, Sony’s Xperia AX (SO-01E) smartphone has arrived on shelves at wireless carrier NTT DoCoMo in Japan.

To celebrate the launch, Sony has kicked off a special promotion for users in the country, providing them with a new SmartWatch for a reduced price with the purchase of an Xperia AX unit.

Released in White, Black, Pink and Turquoise, the smartphone packs a 4.3-inch touchscreen display, a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM and support for the carrier’s 4G network.

The handset also sports a 13-megapixel photo snapper on the back, as well as a front camera for making video calls.

On the connectivity side, Xperia AX packs NFC capabilities, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and support for various mobile services available in the country. It is powered by a 1,700 mAh battery and runs under Google’s Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich platform.
