One week before revealing the Xperia ion at the International Consumer Electronics Show, earlier last month, Sony filed trademark for the “Xperia ION” in the United States.

No one knew what exactly the the Xperia ion is until the LTE-enabled phone was unveiled at CES 2012 by Sony and AT&T.

Today, the folks at MobileSyrup have learned that Sony has filed trademark for the “Xperia SOLA” in the United States. The patent number 85528680 is supposed to cover the entire “Mobile phones and accessories” category, but there are no other details regarding the new filed trademark.

However, the history tends to repeat itself, so we can safely assume that Sony will announce new devices for the United States smartphone market.

Even if Sony doesn't come up with anything new within the next two weeks, we will surely know what exactly “Xperia SOLA” means at the Mobile World Congress 2012, which is set to kick off on February 27.
