The file is up for grabs for developers and enthusiasts

Japanese mobile phone maker Sony Mobile has made available for download the open source files for Xperia Z1’s firmware 14.1.G.1.518.

The file is now up for grabs through Sony’s Developer website as a 223MB download for all those interested in it. Through the release of this download, Sony once again proves its commitment to the open source community.

Furthermore, the availability of the firmware provides developers with the possibility to test their applications for compatibility with the smartphone.

The open source file can prove of interest for developers and enthusiasts alike, as it also offers a better understanding of the features and capabilities that Sony has packed inside this device.

For those out of the loop, we should note that 14.1.G.1.518 was the first firmware to have been certified for the handset. It emerged for the first time before the smartphone was officially announced.
