Until Sony decides to offer more details on the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for 2012 Xperia smartphones, a new firmware update makes its way onto some of these devices.

According to Sony Mobile, the new Ice Cream Sandwich software update for Xperia P, Xperia U, Xperia go and Xperia sola brings lots of improvements to stability, Wi-Fi, tethering/portable hotspot, camera (capture and playback), NFC (Near Field Communications) and Messaging.

Sony also confirmed Xperia P owners will be automatically notified on the update, but availability may vary across different markets and carriers.

Additionally, Xperia U, go and sola owners who already upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich will be automatically notified on the update and will be able to download it OTA (over the air).

Unfortunately, those who are still on Gingerbread will need to download and install the update via PC companion of Bridge for Mac.
