Japanese mobile phone maker Sony Mobile has started to deliver a new firmware update for the owners of Xperia Z and Xperia ZL smartphones out there, namely software version 10.3.1.A.0.244.

The upgrade is based on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, and should already appear as available for some of the owners of the Xperia Z (C660X) and Xperia ZL (C650X) out there, XperiaGuide claims.

While the update was never listed on the PTCRB website, earlier builds have been spotted on developer devices recently, suggesting that a new version was indeed coming, a recent post on XperiaBlog notes.

Users interested in installing the new firmware should keep in mind that they will lose root after flashing it, as Sony managed to patch the perf_event exploit in the newer kernel source, as DooMLoRD user from the XDA-Developers forum unveils.
