Today, Sony Mobile announced the availability of the open source code for the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean platform for the Xperia Z and Xperia ZL smartphones.

The software was published on the company’s developer website only a few days after the OS upgrade started to arrive on devices. The update is currently being pushed to users in various markets in Europe and Asia, as Sony themselves confirm.

Available for download as version 10.3.A.0.423, the firmware provides users not only with the enhancements that Google’s latest OS flavor has to offer, but also with some other improvements.

The open source archive for build 10.3.A.0.423 weighs in at 202 MB, and should provide developers with the possibility to build applications that can take full advantage of the features and capabilities of the two high-end smartphones from Sony.
