There is good and bad news for Sony fans owning an Xperia smartphone. It looks like the Japanese company has just released a new camera application that allows users to broadcast live video through YouTube, but it’s only available on Xperia Z2 devices.

The new camera application is called Live on YouTube and it has already been uploaded to Google Play Store. As mentioned earlier, it allows Xperia Z2 users to broadcast live moments via YouTube.

The feature is not yet available in YouTube, but Sony is offering it to Xperia Z2 owners, who can share these broadcasts with selected friends in private mode.

Obviously, users of the application should not broadcast events that would somewhat infringe on copyright or other rights, like for example live concerts, sport events, or TV shows.

It’s also worth mentioning that Live on YouTube is not available in Germany or in countries where YouTube hasn’t been launched yet. The application requires a YouTube account and activation of the LIVE feature from the account.

If you are the proud owner of an Xperia Z2, you can now download Live on YouTube for Android for free via Google Play store.

As a side note, the application only supports broadcasting live videos of up to 480p resolution. Additional high resolutions may be added later on, but Sony has yet to confirm the information.
