The company initially stated the device wouldn’t be available in Canada

Sony Mobile has just confirmed the Xperia Z will arrive in Canada “this Summer.” This is big news as the Japanese company announced earlier this year that only the Xperia ZL would be available in the country.

However, Sony Canada has just tweeted the news without giving any additional detail on the exact release date and pricing options.

Unlike the Xperia ZL, which is about to make its debut at various Canadian carriers, the Xperia Z does not feature Infrared connectivity.

Still, Sony Xperia Z is IP57 certified (dust and water resistant up to 1meter and 30 minutes) and packs a slightly better 2.2-megapixel front-facing camera for capturing full HD (1080p) videos.

Design-wise, the smartphones strongly resemble one another, but size and weight are different. Stay tuned for more updates on the Sony Xperia Z’s availability in Canada.

UPDATE: It appears that Sony was referring to the Xperia Z tablet and not the phone. The company also stated the Xperia Z has yet to be confirmed to arrive in Canada, so stay tuned for more on this.
